Hi all,
First of all, I've been curious about Wicca for a long time, and I have been doing research on and off. The one thing I have trouble figuring out is what I can do as a wiccan being blind. I know it's not impossible, but I would like some guidance.
1. How does doing the rituals work? correct me if I'm wrong, but it's more about the intent. Sorry if that didn't sound right.
2. If you do have an alter, what do you use for it. I live in an apartment building and I can't really use anything flammable, and I can't really see the candles anyway.
3. Where do you get your supplies? Can you make them if you have the ability?
4. can you use meditation as part of ritual work or just in general?
That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sorry if I've asked questions that seem too personal, but I just want to know what works and what doesn't and to get some advice. You don't have to answer on here. It's fine if you PM me. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long rambling post.

P.S. I did try to look this stuff up, but I had very little success when I tried to look up Wicca and blindness.
For fun I did a search.
This page has information, and links that could help.

No, I'm not in to Wika. Just was interested to learn what I could find.
Smile.
Good luck.
That link you'll have to copy it isn't a clickable link.
Thanks. I do know about what Wicca is and the basic principles, and I'm trying to learn more as I go along. I've found a ton of websights that talk about what Wicca is and things like that, but I'm having a hard time finding info on practicing Wicca when someone is blind/visually impaired. I do appreciate you posting that link.
I would think you'll not find anything specific on blind or visually impaired.
You understand, you have to cater the rituals to fit your disability.
Maybe what you should ask is this.
Lets say part of the ritual is the burning of a paper with a prayer written on it.
I understand this is done by some Pagans, so that is why I'm listing it.
Okay, so you're blind. How might you write your prayer, and then burn it?
You spoke about candles. You, even being blind, can light them easy.
You can't see them, but you can surely smell them, and feel the heat.
Now, this is my method of lighting candles.
I use a lighter, or a wooden match. The reason for a wood match, is so that it is stiff, and you can feel were you are directing it better then paper.
Same thing with a lighter.
If you strike a wooden match, you hear, and smell, and even feel with it lights.
Your candles should be placed in a holder that has a wide bottom so you don't knock it over by accident.
Feel with your fingers the wick, then guide the fire to them. You'll move your fingers when the heat gets near, and you'll light the candle, because you can press the match to the top of it.
Buy fatter candles, or tall ones with pointed tops.
Where can you get all that? Walmart, or any department store.
You might do a search for a pagan, or witch supply store in your city too.
You'll find lots of stuff in one of these, and I'll gbet the clerks can help you out with your practice too.
Yes, they have witch supply stores. Smile. I have a couple in my city, and they catter to folks like yourself.
You can even do a search online, but I'll bet feeling things would be better.
A good ashtray would work for the burning of your prayers too. You can't go wrong with that.
Just some ideas.
Smile.
Gives me something different to think about. I've known people that practice such things, but never thought about it being any different if a person was blind.
Here's a Zoner who's Pagan.
She doesn't log on much, but you can maybe send her a private message, or email from her profile page.
She'd probably love to talk about this subject.
She's not Wikin, but greek whatever.

Yes, rituals are more about your intent and you don't have to do them exactly like how another wiccan does it. Just whatever feels right to you. This means you don't necessarily have to light candles unless you really want to.
One website I like is www.13moons.com
Meditation is helpful to do before your ritual so that you can clear your mind and really focus on what you want to do.
And yeah, bigger candles are easier to work with.
I've always had trouble lighting candles and incense.
Thanks all for your help. If I think of more questions, I'll post them here. Thanks again.
